2019 January. Great Blue Heron. Blue herons are long-legged wading birds, commonly widespread across North America. Herons are closely related to egrets and bitterns. Herons are equipped with long, sharp pointed bills that are used for snapping food from their area of life close to water - fish, frogs, insects and sometimes mice. They usually live in colonies but hunt for food alone during the day and come back to their permanent locations at dusk. There are also night herons; their life activity starts at night.
